Fongshan was the name of a county. During the initial stages of the occupation of Taiwan by the Cing Dynasty, the Wannian Prefecture of the Ming and Jheng Dynasties was demarcated as Taiwan and Fongshan Counties. Fongshan was the old name for this county, which was established in Bizihtou of Singlong Village (currently Zuoying). The city was named Yuebitou. The administrative division belonged to the Dajhu Neighborhood of Fongshan County. In September 1970, the population of this city surpassed 100,000, while the various constructions also conformed to the prerequisites of setting up a County City, hence in March 1972, Fongshan was changed to a County City with the permission of the Ministry of the Interior, and was officially renamed the Kaohsiung County Fongshan City Office.
